Emily is the Program Consultant for the TEC Grant, NTC’s grant partnership with the Department of Education to expand computer science and STEM career pathways to rural counties in Tennessee. In this role, she focuses on connecting students to Middle Tennessee’s tech community to bring understanding and access to the workforce they will enter someday.
Prior to NTC, Emily was the research director at BenchFly, an edtech startup with a workforce development focus. In her work at BenchFly, Powerschool, NTC & as a teacher in MNPS, she has focused on education innovation, curriculum design, project management, program development, research, and UX. Her passion for education and technology was developed during her years as a middle school teacher for Metro Public Nashville Schools. She created a 2-year program to integrate career and tech skills with the curriculum, bringing in experts from the tech community to give students a glimpse of their future working selves.
Emily graduated from Pepperdine University with a BA in Humanities and Italian minor in 2003. She received her Master of Arts in Teaching from Belmont University in 2011. Emily is a Nashville native and stays active in her community, volunteering with The Frist, FiA Nashville, and her church. She lives with her husband, Beau, and 3 rambunctious children near Radnor Lake, and they go camping as much as possible.
