Emma Adds Two More Industry Veterans to Leadership Team
Marketing software company hires Ethan Zoubek as chief revenue officer and Wellford Dillard as chief financial officer
(NASHVILLE, TENN. – December 6, 2016) Emma, a provider of best-in-class email marketing software and services, today announced the hiring of Ethan Zoubek as chief revenue officer (CRO) and Wellford Dillard as chief financial officer (CFO). Both executives bring a wealth of industry experience and expertise to Emma’s leadership team.
As CRO, Zoubek will oversee Emma’s sales and client success departments. With more than 20 years of experience as an entrepreneur and sales leader in SaaS technologies, he specializes in helping software companies create climates that foster client success and accelerate revenue growth. Prior to Emma, Zoubek was an enterprise sales leader at Krux Digital and ExactTarget. Both companies were acquired by Salesforce – Krux for $700 million and ExactTarget for $2.5 billion.
Zoubek is also an active advisor and mentor to early-stage technology companies at Boomtown Accelerator in Boulder, Colorado.
“Now is an amazing time to join Emma. There’s such a rich client-first, give-first culture in place and a tremendous opportunity to bring the Emma experience to marketing leaders and teams aiming to do world-class marketing on behalf of significant brands,” said Zoubek. “Emma’s reputation is so strong and the Emma team so highly regarded that I consider it a privilege to be to able work here with them.”
Emma’s new CFO, Wellford Dillard, has more than 15 years of experience leading financial operations for SaaS companies. As the CFO for Opower (acquired by Oracle), Dillard built and led the company’s finance, accounting, HR, IT, recruiting and operations teams, developing strategies and processes that helped guide and support the Company while growing revenue 12x during his tenure. Prior to Emma, Dillard also served as the CFO at multiple venture capital-backed companies, including Social Tables, VideoBlocks and GetWellNetwork (acquired by Welsh, Carson and Anderson & Stowe).
“It’s incredible to see a software company Emma’s size whose customers consistently reference their love for their vendor and its people as much as their love of the product – and yet that’s exactly the type of bond Emma has built with its customers,” said Dillard. “Emma’s customer-centric approach is so ingrained in its corporate DNA that it’s not remotely surprising the company has become one of the fastest-growing SaaS companies in this industry, and I’m honored to be part of this amazing team that will help guide the company to the next level of success.”
“I’m thrilled to have Ethan and Wellford on board,” said Clint Smith, CEO of Emma. “They’re each extremely rare finds when it comes to experience, leadership ability and personal chemistry, so to have found our way to both of them at the same time is more than I could have hoped for. They’ve already begun transforming the company in critical ways as we prepare for our next chapter, and I can’t wait to see what the Emma team is capable of in 2017.”
The addition of Zoubek and Dillard caps a tremendous year of growth for the Nashville-based software company. ExactTarget co-founder Peter McCormick joined the board of directors, and Jeff Middlesworth, former senior director of marketing automation at Salesforce Marketing Cloud, signed on as chief product officer. Emma also added Joey Brown, former Salesforce enterprise account executive, as vice president of sales. Overall, Emma grew its staff to over 180 employees in 2016.
This leadership and staff expansion coincided with a steady stream of product enhancements that culminated in the release of Emma Plus, an expanded platform that brings next-level email automation capabilities to marketing teams of all sizes. Emma also increased its global customer base to over 50,000 organizations and hosted its second annual Marketing United conference, which drew a sold-out crowd of 650 marketers to Nashville in April.
