JEREMY BAKKER JOINS NASHVILLE SOFTWARE SCHOOL, ASSUMES NEWLY CREATED ROLE OF DIRECTOR OF LEARNING PROGRAMS

Former Engineering Manager at Eventbrite Returns to NSS and Education

NASHVILLE, Tenn., – JUNE 17, 2021 – The nation’s first non-profit software bootcamp, Nashville Software School (NSS), announces that Jeremy Bakker has joined the team as director of learning programs. Bakker brings more than a decade of experience in education and almost four years of experience in data engineering and machine learning at Eventbrite to this newly created role at NSS. As director of learning programs, Bakker will contribute to the overall strategic direction of NSS to evolve existing programs and develop new courses to fulfill the changing needs of employers in the region. He will partner with operations, programs and instructional teams to create new learning opportunities for students who are looking to advance their careers in technology. Bakker, along with a team of program managers, will maintain and design new NSS programs in web development, front-end designer/development, data analytics, data science, IT infrastructure, Jumpstart programs and professional development courses.

Jeremy and his team will be actively keeping a pulse on the job market both to identify needs for new programs as well as to evolve our current programs.”

 

 Bakker is a 2017 graduate of NSS Web Development Cohort 18, focusing on full-stack software development fundamentals. Most recently, he leveraged those skills at Eventbrite as an engineering manager for data engineering and machine learning. He also served as an associate engineering manager and data engineer at Eventbrite where he built and maintained data pipelines with PySpark and Spark SQL.

 

Prior to that, Bakker spent more than a decade in higher education. He was a lecturer at Yale Divinity School in New Haven, Conn., where he created courses in early Christian literature, ancient Greco-Roman culture and modern sociological theory. He also served as adjunct faculty in New Testament at The General Theological Seminary in New York,  where he designed and facilitated graduate-level courses in New Testament history, language and literature. He also served as a scholar in residence at The Upper Room in Nashville, Tenn., where he compiled and presented research on creativity and technological innovation to inform an organizational shift to digital.

 

Bakker has earned multiple degrees including a Bachelor of Music from the University of North Texas; a Master of Divinity from Southern Methodist University; a Master of Arts and a Master of Philosophy as well as a Doctor of Philosophy in religion/religious studies at Yale University.
