As part of NTC Featured Member of the Month, we get to know more about a local tech business. June 2017’s Featured Member is Lipscomb University College of Computing and Technology! You may have heard that Lipscomb University College of Computing & Technology’s information technology degree was recently named the best in Tennessee and the 31st best in the nation by College Choice. Congratulations!

Over the month of June, the team from Lipscomb University have set up camp in Tech Hill Commons and had a chance to meet with folks at the tech hub. We’re excited to talk with Brett Ramsey, Enrollment Management Specialist, to tell us more.

What is Lipscomb University’s College of Computing & Technology’s mission?

Our mission is to advance scholarship in key domains of computing and technology to our students by serving the computing and technology community as well as society at large, connecting to key industries, influencers, and thought leaders in the computing and technology arena, and innovating through up-to-date curricula and impactful research that will enhance the computing and technology community in Nashville and beyond.

What’s your role at Lipscomb University in the Nashville area?

I am the Enrollment Management Specialist. I am responsible for recruitment for our graduate programs as well as the marketing aspect of it.

What kinds of undergraduate degrees does the College of Computing & Technology offer?

Computer Science, Computer Science and Math, Data Science, Game Development, Information Security, Information Technology Application, Information Technology Management, Web Development, Software Engineering, Computational Biology.

What kinds of graduate degrees does the CCT offer?

  • Master of Science in Information Technology (Concentrations available in IT Management, Data Science, Information Security, Software Engineering)
  • Master of Science in Data Science
  • Master of Science in Software Engineering (Concentrations available in IT Management, Information Security, Data Science)

Where do you see opportunities for tech grads in Nashville?

Tech grads will have many opportunities in Nashville. With over 2000 available IT jobs, opportunities will be in Information Security, IT Management, Software Engineering, and Data Science. Career opportunities in healthcare, IT and manufacturing companies all over middle Tennessee.

What are the opportunities you’ve seen elsewhere that you’d like to see more of in Nashville?

Nashville is growing at a fast pace. The variety of industries as well as the number of individuals moving here are helping make the economy boom. I would not change anything because of the pace it is growing already.

What are you most excited about in Nashville?

The pace our economy is growing and how it is one of the nation’s top destination cities. Nashville is the current “it” city to be in right now. Go Preds!!
