Q: For folks who have heard of TEDTalks but never attended TEDxNashville, what should they expect?

There’s nothing quite like a locally organized TED event. For those who have watched their favorite TEDTalks online, TEDxNashville is an opportunity for guests to experience thought-provoking talks and live performances featuring preeminent leaders in their field. The talks are about 18 minutes each and our roster is full with almost 25 presenters across two-days, so it’s a crash course across disciplines with musical and artistic expression to transition from topic to topic.

Guests should leave feeling like they were a part of something unique that could only happen at TEDxNashville. This is our seventh year and we ultimately hope to stimulate minds to create positive changes in our society.

Q: What are the range of topics that will be discussed this year?

That’s the beauty of TEDxNashville. Our presenters are wide-ranging and will address topics in technology, education, public policy, entertainment and healthcare among others. We have talks on artificial intelligence, a paleoanthropologist who’s also a comedian, a Hawaiian one-woman band, a New York Times bestselling author on the Kurds and a Grammy award-winning hip hop artist. There’s something for everyone at TEDxNashville and we’re proud to bring such a high caliber of speakers to the community.

Q: We’re excited to hear that year’s program spans two days instead of the traditional one day event. Why did you decide to super-size TEDxNashville 2016?

TEDxNashville has sold out every year and when organizers were planning this year’s event they were thinking about how to extend the experience to reach a wider audience. Nashville’s been known as a healthcare hub for decades so we decided to shine a light on the future of health and added another day on Friday, April 15th with the theme HealthNext. We were able to attract some dynamic speakers from Duke Cancer Institute, MyGenetx, Faros Healthcare, Rochester Institute of Technology, Healthways and Vanderbilt University Medical Center.

Q: Anything else that NTC’s members should know about TEDxNashville 2016?

Tickets are available online and you can purchase a ticket for Friday, Saturday or both days. Guests should plan to attend the evening reception held each day after the talks. It’s a great opportunity to meet and mingle with attendees, organizers, speakers and performers to extend the conversation. We’d like to thank our presenting sponsor Vanderbilt University Medical Center for supporting TEDxNashville and making this event happen.
